St. Catharines, Ontario – Chorus Niagara, Niagara’s premiere symphonic chorus, with Artistic Director Robert Cooper, proudly present the 2014-15 concert season. Dedicated to presenting diverse, high calibre performances, Chorus Niagara offers something for everyone this season from memories of the Great War to a sparkling jazz celebration!
On November 8th, The World Remembers is a heartfelt commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the First World War. Personal accounts of Niagara soldiers, nurses, families and friends; moving musical selections and startling imagery combine in a salute to the pride, passion and pathos of ‘the war to end all wars’. This concert features Shaw Festival actors Benedict Campbell and Fiona Byrne who narrate the first person accounts of local residents. This concert sponsored by the Lincoln and Welland Regiment Foundation.
Ring in the holidays on December 6th and 7th with Handel’s glorious Messiah. Accompanied by The Talisker Players performing on period instruments, and featuring four brilliant young soloists, audiences will experience the music as it was at its premier in 1742. The chorus performs at Mountainview Church in Grimsby December 6th and at Calvary Church in St. Catharines on December 7th. The audience is invited to bring donations of non-perishable food items in support of Community Care and the Grimsby Benevolent Fund. This concert sponsored by Peter and Janet Partridge.
Reflect upon the human condition February 28th, as the chorus presents Life Eternal. Chorus Niagara performs two soul-searching settings of the Requiem composed nearly 200 years apart. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s last and greatest of choral works, composed in 1791, alongside John Rutter’s unmistakably optimistic message of hope and comfort, composed in 1985. The Niagara Symphony Orchestra accompanies the chorus for this performance. Audiences are invited to a pre-concert chat with Robert Cooper 45 minutes prior to the concert to gain insight into both works. This concert sponsored by Jeff and Kitty Cairns.
Chorus Niagara heralds spring May 2nd with Rhythm and Light. The audience is invited to ‘get in the groove’ with the sparkling Light Mass by renowned Lithuanian composer Vytautas Miskinis. This concert features the matchless keyboard artistry of John Sherwood and his jazz trio. Audiences will experience an innovative evening of vibrant choral delights guaranteed to keep toes tapping and spirits soaring. The Chorus Niagara Children’ s Choir joins the adult chorus for this concert. Audiences are invited to a pre-concert chat with the guest artists 45 minutes prior to the concert and a post-concert reception.
