A Brief Note from Doug Draper At Niagara At Large
Posted March 13th, 2026 on Niagara At Large
If you wonder why Niagara At Large has been a little slower on the draw over the past couple of days, the reason is basement flooding following a very heavy rainstorm a few days ago.
Four or five inches of wastewater backing up from the road can do a considerable amount of damage to a finished basement containging valued possessions and that serves as a family room and I have a team cleaners from ServiceMaster dealing with that now. They are doing a good job but it is a bummer talking to them about what has to be thrown out.
So please be patience while we get through this.
Very sorry to hear this, Doug. I hope it’s resolved soon and that you didn’t lose any items dear to you.
Thanks for your kind thoughts Fiona – I am sorry to say that in a basement flood, you lose some dear items and we did. The rest is just material objects that can be replaced.

sorry to hear this Doug – my sister is going through the same right now. And in the UK, we suffered 4 separate flooding issues when we were living beside the Wye river – it overflowed often, because of rain waters in the spring. Finally the local gov’t added flood defences and the spring water was then allowed to flood in a large park area. Not ideal. But no one seems to be dealing with the ‘why’!! Anyway, good luck with your basement clean up – i hope not too much is lost. talk soon, cath
