*MEDIA RELEASE: Anti-Racism Organizations Welcome Niagara Region Chair Bob Gale Resignation, Urge Him to Destroy Hate Material, Grateful to Whistle-Blower*

“It’s dismaying how so many in Niagara still don’t get what’s wrong with buying and keeping hateful material that has done so much harm. Bob Gale should now destroy his signed copy of Mein Kampf because it belongs in the garbage, just like the Nazi hate of those who still promote it.“ – Saleh Waziruddin of the Niagara Region Anti-Racism Association

NIAGARA FALLS, ON – The Niagara Region Anti-Racism Association (NRARA) and Justice 4 Black Lives Niagara (J4BL) welcomed last night’s resignation of appointed Niagara Region Chair Bob Gale and urged him to destroy his copy of Mein Kampf, signed by Adolf Hitler, as hate material responsible for promoting the genocide against Jews.

They expressed gratitude to the whistle-blower who took enormous risks to make public what had been a shocking secret for decades,

“Bob Gale’s resignation letter says, ‘this work is bigger than any one person,’ including him.  That’s right. it’s not just about him, it’s about all of us doing the right thing. I challenge Bob, do you mean everybody in Niagara or just the ones that look like you?” said Sherri Darlene of Justice 4 Black Lives Niagara.

She asked “Where is the integrity? Doing the right thing when no one is looking. It seems like no one has it any more nowadays.”

“Bob Gale’s resignation is a relief to so many just like his owning a copy of Mein Kampf signed by Hitler shocked so many. White supremacist groups are publicly intimidating us in Niagara, pushing ant-isemitic conspiracy theories against migrants and trans people, so it was just untenable for any official, let alone the top politician, to hold on to a signed book that same hate is based on,” said Saleh Waziruddin of the Niagara Region Anti-Racism Association.

“It’s dismaying how so many in Niagara still don’t get what’s wrong with buying and keeping hateful material that has done so much harm. Bob Gale should now destroy his signed copy of Mein Kampf because it belongs in the garbage, just like the Nazi hate of those who still promote it,“ Saleh added. “This is why the whistle-blower bravely making public what people need to know was so important, and more people should take courage to bring more secrets into the light.”

The Niagara Region Anti-Racism Association was founded in 2018 on the principle that anti-racism should be BIPOC-led. It campaigns on police reforms, municipal anti-racism committees, employment equity, provides anti-racism workshops, and supports individuals under racist attacks.

Sherri Darlene is the founder of Justice 4 Black Lives Niagara (J4BL), launched in 2020 following a historic march of thousands in Niagara Falls, Ontario. An unapologetic anti-racism educator, she exposed the depth of racism in the region and continues to advocate for systemic change through public education, community advocacy, and municipal anti-racism work.
