A Message from the Green Party of Ontario
Posted February 18th, 2026 on Niagara At Large
A Brief Foreword Note from Doug Draper at Niagara At Large – To be fair as I can to the current Ford government, the underfunding of post-secondary education in Ontario goes at least as far back as the Conservative government of Mike Harris in the mid through late 1990s and through the provincial Liberal governments of Dalton McGuinty and Kathleen Wynne (2003 to (2018), while they were all more focuses on cutting taxes for their wealthy donors and other higher income groups in the province. You can’t always blame everything on Doug Ford.
Now here is the message from Ontario’s Green Party –
Doug Ford is forcing students to foot the bill for his government’s years of underfunding post-secondary education.
His government just announced a plan to overhaul OSAP funding, flipping to 75% loans and only 25% grants. This means Ontario students will graduate with some of the highest debt loads in Canada while the government continues to provide the lowest per-capita funding for colleges and universities in the country.
This is a student debt trap, plain and simple.

We’ve seen what happens when this government tries to balance budgets on the backs of students. But we’ve also seen what happens when Ontarians fight back and win.
Ontario Greens are demanding investments in post secondary education that don’t harm students. Will you join us?
