Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney
“Canada has what the world wants. We are an energy superpower. We hold vast reserves of critical minerals. We have the most educated population in the world. Our pension funds are amongst the world’s largest and most sophisticated investors. We have capital, talent, and a government with the immense fiscal capacity to act decisively. And we have the values to which many others aspire.
Canada is a pluralistic society that works. Our public square is loud, diverse, and free. Canadians remain committed to sustainability. We are a stable, reliable partner—in a world that is anything but—a partner that builds and values relationships for the long term.
Canada has something else: a recognition of what is happening and a determination to act accordingly. We understand that this rupture calls for more than adaptation. It calls for honesty about the world as it is.” – Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, from his January 20th, 2026 address to the World Economic Forum
A Brief Commentary by Doug Draper

Since our Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney delivered his speech to world leaders at a major economic forum in Davos, Switzerland this past January 20th, I have received so many messages from people in Niagara and other regions of our country mentioning how proud they were hearing it.
Carney’s address has also received high praise from a number of hosts and their quests on American cable TV programs on CNN and MSNOW (formerly MSNBC), as well as from commentators on BBC.
One individual who did not think much of Carney’s address was U.S. President Donald Trump who, while delivering his own speech at the Davos, Switzerland this January 21st, declared that Canada should be “so grateful” to his country for its very existence and that Carney might want to remember that before he makes any further statements.
If you missed Carney’s address to the World Economic Forum, you can hear and watch it from beginning to end by clicking on the screen immediately below –
“Canada lives because of the United States,” Trump responded during his address at the same economic forum this January 21st and for that, Canadians should “be grateful,” he said. “Remember that, Mark, next time you make your statements.”
As for the rest of us, let’s remember to do everything that we we as individual Canadians across Niagara and other regions of our great country can to boycott everything made in the U.S.A and to cancel any and all trip across the border until Trump is gone. – Doug Draper, Niagara At Large
