Canada’s Snowbirds  Cool Their Jets On Migrating To Trumpland For The Winter

‘Three-Quarters Of Canadians – a full 77 Per Cent – Say They View The United States More Negatively As A Travel Destination This Year Than In Those Prior.’                                                               – from a recent survey of Canadians conducted by the non-profit Angus Reid Institute

Like many Canadians who do our best to tough it out through our country’s cold winters, I have known my share of friends and neighbours who, every year around this time, show their resolve not to do that.

They pack up as much as they can travel with and head off to warmer climes like Florida or other southern regions of the United States for the winter.

But the number still doing that, according to recent reports on this annual migration of Canadians who are commonly identified as “snowbirds,” has dropped off significantly.

One report, released earlier this November by the Angus Reid Institute, shows that   majority of snowbirds surveyed say they do not feel comfortable travelling to the U.S. this winter..

“From safety concerns to new fingerprinting rules for longer stays, to a growing antipathy toward the U.S., a winter getaway to Arizona or Florida is no longer the automatic choice it once was,” states the report. “Seven-in-10 (70%) say they would be uncomfortable travelling to the United States this winter, and two-thirds (65%) describe new border requirements for long-term visitors – including fingerprinting and registration fees – as “invasive.”

“Concerns about safety, politics, and border treatment now rank ahead of cost or exchange rates as the top reasons Canadians are cutting back on travel” to the U.S., the report says.

“Further, for many who are not travelling to the U.S., this decision is seen as a way “to stand up for Canada”.

Seven-in-10 (69%) who have reduced their travel say this,” the report adds.

A Few More  Words from Doug Draper on this topic –

Going back to how much I recall those snowbirds I know looking forward to their winters Florida and other regions in the southern U.S.A., I am sure it has been hard for many of them to look at the situation south of the border now and say; “Hell no, we’re not going to go.”

And to the extent that they have made that decision not to go and, in some case, even sell winter homes they have down there, for reasons that have to do with standing up for Canada and the way our country is being treated with so much hostility by Trump, you have got to admire them even more.

It is one more reason who all Canadians should be inspired to do as much as we can to let the Trump regime know that we are proud of our country and we are prepared to do as much as we can to stand up for our sovereignty and for the values and freedoms generations of us have fought so hard for here.
