Grimsby, Ontario Mayor jeff Jordan
“The opening of the new West Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Grimsby is more than the unveiling of a building — it is the realization of a shared dream. It stands as a symbol of hope, unity and perseverance, built by a community that refused to give up. It is not only a place where generations are born, healed and cared for, but where the community continues to grow stronger for the future. Together, we have not just built a hospital — we have strengthened the very heart of West Niagara.” – Jeff Jordan, Mayor, Town of Grimsby

GRIMSBY, in Niagara, Ontario — The Ontario government is celebrating the grand opening of the new West Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Grimsby, which delivers on a key government promise to connect more people in West Niagara to more convenient, high-quality hospital care, closer to home.

This project is one more way the government is delivering on its plan to protect the provincial health-care system by investing nearly $60 billion in more than 50 major hospital projects across the province over the next 10 years. The government announced its support for the new hospital in November 2018, with shovels in the ground in May 2022.“With a 24/7 ER, expanded capacity and state-of-the-art equipment, the new West Lincoln Memorial Hospital is a game-changer for the people of West Niagara, giving families peace of mind knowing that world-class health care is available close to home,” said Premier Doug Ford.
“Our government will continue making historic investments in health care across the province to ensure families can access the services they need, when and where they need them.”
Supported by a provincial investment of nearly $250 million, Hamilton Health Sciences’ new West Lincoln Memorial Hospital is nearly 80 per cent larger than the facility it is replacing and is the first new hospital in Ontario to include all single-patient rooms.
This facility will offer both inpatient and outpatient services, including emergency care, complex and palliative care and surgical services in new, more modern facilities, so the hospital can better serve the needs of people and families in West Niagara for years to come.
“Our government is making historic investments to protect Ontario’s health-care system, ensuring that more people can connect to convenient care in their community,” said Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health. “We are excited to celebrate the opening of the new West Lincoln Memorial Hospital, building vital capacity for Niagara Region and helping more families access the right care, in the right place, for generations to come.”
The new West Lincoln Memorial Hospital will provide patients and families with:
- Expanded patient capacity with the addition of nine new, fully private inpatient beds, bringing the total to 55 beds and six birthing suites
- A new, modern 24/7 emergency department
- Maternal and newborn services, including the six birthing suites
- Day surgical services, including three operating rooms and a procedure room to provide more patients with increased access to surgeries and procedures
- Increased outpatient care space to expand availability of consultation services
- Fully renovated and enhanced advanced diagnostic imaging suites including X-ray, mammography, echocardiography and ultrasound and CT scanning.

Niagara West Ford government MPP Sam Oosterhoff
“Today is a big day for West Niagara. The opening of the new West Lincoln Memorial Hospital has been highly anticipated by local residents and frontline staff since Premier Ford announced the commitment to rebuild in 2018,” said Sam Oosterhoff, MPP for Niagara West.
“I am grateful to have been able to help get this life-changing project across the finish line, together with community advocates, municipal leaders, determined volunteers and a dedicated patient care team who have worked so hard to make this a reality.”
Through Your Health: A Plan for Connected and Convenient Care, the Ontario government is expanding and modernizing Ontario’s hospitals, making it faster and easier for people of all ages to connect to the high-quality care they need, where and when they need it.
Ontario’s historic investment of nearly $60 billion in major health infrastructure is also a part of the government’s more than $201 billion plan to build highways, hospitals, transit, schools and other critical infrastructure across the province.
