For at least some people living in the United States, including close friends of mine, and for many of us living here in Canada, having a front-row seat to a horror show where Trump and his followers have been destroying what is left of freedom and democracy in America has been a horrifying thing to watch, indeed.
Once in a rare moment though, through all of this darkness, something happens that offers hope and lets just a little bit of light shine in.
One of those rare moments came this past Tuesday, September 23rd night when, if you were able to stay up late enough and you cared to tune in, American comedian Jimmy Kimmel returned to the air waves with his late night show – a show that was shut down six days earlier by Trump and his cult-like supporters, and by an ABC network and Disney corporation that did not demonstrate the courage and principle to stand up for a show and its host’s constitutional right to exercise his freedom of speech.
The standing ovation Kimmel received this night of September 23rd from the studio audience and the monologue he delivered were well worth staying up to watch.
The question, of course, is how many more moments like this will there be in American for those of us who for those of us who cherish freedom and democracy?

All Jimmy said originally, was that the shooter was MAGA and that MAGA was rejecting that. It was true. He didn’t need to apologize or act contrite for telling the truth. I think he caved (a little bit) but he had too because of the many people that rely on him for a job.
