Few are seen crossing the Peace Bridge, or what Trump (with his newly named Department of War) might call the ‘War Bridge’ into the U.S.

A still image view of the Peace Bridge car and truck lanes into Buffalo, N.Y., this past Saturday, September 13th at 8:46 a.m. when they would normally be filled with long lines of traffic.
With Trump’s tariff war against Canada continuing, and with ugly talk, violence and the militarization of American streets growing worse by the week, it was – indeed – another great weekend for those of us who live in Niagara, Ontario and other regions of our country not to cross that border.
When I clicked on the live stream cameras showing traffic entering the U.S. side from the Peace Bridge crossing this weekend, the traffic lanes were so empty you could have used them for a game of ball hockey with little or no need to move your nets.
Since this past January, after Trump was sworn in as U.S. president for the second time and began sounding off about breaking Canada’s economic back with terrorists and making our country a “51st state,” statistics have been showing that the number of Canadians no longer crossing the border to the United States has been growing. Some recent data showing it has dropped to well over a third of what it was when the man with the orange face and scowl re-entered the Oval Office.

Another still shot of the Peace Bridge entrance to the U.sA. this past Saturday, September 13th in the early afternoon.
I continue to talk to or receive email from fellow-Canadians saying they have no intention of crossing the border as long as Trump is in office and that makes all the sense in the world to me.
First of all, with Trump slamming industries in our country with punishing tariffs, who wants to spend so much as a dime of their money over there?
Second, why do you want to go through the humiliation of being treated like a criminal by Trump’s border guards or have those squads of masked whoever they are pull you out of your car just for having an Ontario licence plate?
I have plenty of American friends who say to me over the phone; “Oh, we are so sorry. We miss you. Please come back. We didn’t vote for this.”
My response to them is; “Maybe you don’t vote for this but tens-of-millions of your fellow Americans did. They knew that Trump had it in for Canada with all of his labeling our country as a ‘security threat’ for reasons unknown to few others but him the first time he was president. If you don’t like it that we are not coming over and are not buying American goods, go talk to them.”
Meanwhile, I am staying from the United States and I take pride in knowing that many of my fellow Canadians are too.
