Niagara Region, Ontario – Teachers and school leaders in Niagara now have an easier way to bring vital safety education into their classrooms.
The Kristen French Child Advocacy Centre has launched an online booking portal for its Kids First Project, allowing schools across the region to view age-appropriate subject matter and schedule free in-class presentations when it works for them.
The Kids First Project, delivered in partnership with the Niagara Catholic District School Board and the District School Board of Niagara, provides students from Kindergarten through Grade 12 with practical skills to keep themselves safe both online and offline.
Each presentation is aligned with Ontario curriculum standards and covers topics such as personal boundaries, online safety, safe social media use, and building positive relationships.
To meet growing demand, the Centre has also expanded its staff team, increasing capacity to reach more students across the region. This growth was made possible through support from the David S. Howes Fund at Niagara Community Foundation.
This program exists to protect and support the youngest members of our community. Education is a critical line of defense against abuse, and we want every child in Niagara to benefit from these presentations.
Brian Bratt, Executive Director of the Kristen French Child Advocacy Centre. Recent arrests in the Niagara region involving child abuse and internet luring underscore the continued importance of the Kids First Project.
By equipping students with awareness and practical strategies, the Centre aims to prevent harm before it happens. Each year, nearly 300 children and youth walk through the doors of the Centre to meet with police after experiencing abuse, internet luring, or witnessing violence. While the Centre provides trauma therapy, camp programming, and other supports, prevention through education is key.
Teachers, Principals, Child & Youth Workers who are interested in booking a presentation for their school/classroom from September through June can do so here: https://calendly.com/kidsfirstproject
About the Kristen French Child Advocacy Centre – At the Centre, we create a safe, supportive environment where children and youth can share their experiences with professionals, begin healing from trauma, and build resilience to move beyond the effects of abuse.
As a charitable, community-supported organization, we work in collaboration with the Niagara Regional Police Service and partner agencies to serve children, youth, and families across Niagara who have been impacted by physical or sexual abuse, neglect, or exposure to violence.
