Posted September 8th, 2025 on Niagara At Large
GRIMSBY – This past September 5th, Sam Oosterhoff, MPP for Niagara West, welcomed the announcement that Hamilton Health Sciences has officially taken ownership of the redeveloped West Lincoln Memorial Hospital following substantial completion.
A key project milestone, substantial completion is the date when the facility is ready for use in accordance with the contractual requirements and marks the end of all major construction.
Over the next few weeks, Hamilton Health Sciences will begin a transition period, which includes moving operations from the existing structure to the new facility. Patients are expected to begin receiving care at the new hospital on or around November 24, 2025.
“Substantial completion of the new West Lincoln Memorial Hospital is great news for all of the advocates, volunteers, community leaders and frontline staff who have worked so hard to make this key milestone a reality,” said MPP Oosterhoff.
“I am thankful for everyone who has worked toward this achievement and grateful to have played a role with the province in advancing this important project. I am confident this new facility and the amazing staff who will work in it will serve families and patients in Niagara West for future generations.”
“Our government is protecting Ontario’s health care system and ensuring that more people in West Niagara can connect to world-class care, when they need it most,” said Hon. Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health.

“This exciting milestone brings us one step closer to opening the new and expanded West Lincoln Memorial Hospital and is another way we are making it faster and easier for more people to access the care they need, in their community, for years to come.”
West Lincoln Memorial Hospital has been caring for residents in West Niagara for over seventy years. Work to open the redeveloped hospital will occur in alignment with the post-construction planning process of the Ministry of Health.
“This project is a major investment in the health of residents in West Niagara,” said Bruce Squires, Vice President of Women’s and Children’s Health and Site Executive at West Lincoln Memorial Hospital.
“We are deeply grateful to the West Niagara community, all levels of government and our health and community partners for their support. Together, we have built a new hospital that will serve the region for generations to come.”
The new West Lincoln Memorial Hospital will increase the current hospital’s size by eighty percent and include fifty-five inpatient beds, three operating rooms, a 24-hour emergency department and increased ambulatory care capacity to allow more people in West Niagara to connect to high-quality care in their local community. The redeveloped site is the first new hospital in Ontario to have all single rooms.
“From signing petitions to placing lawn signs to advocating with the province and local health system officials, the effort to build and complete the new West Lincoln Memorial Hospital has been a team effort from the beginning,” said Tony Joosse, Co-Chair of the Save and Rebuild West Lincoln Memorial Hospital campaign.
“This milestone announcement is a celebration of what happens when a community rallies around a local cause and never gives up!”
More details including official opening events and celebrations, program and service locations and parking will be shared over the coming weeks and months.

A Brief Comment from Doug Draper at Niagara At Large – This is good news. Now how about Premier Doug Ford taking some of those tens-of-millions of dollars he plans on spending on new highways, bridges and tunnels for trucks and cars and building new hospital services for the people of South Niagara.
