NIAGARA FALLS – Shadow Minister for Long-Term Care MPP Wayne Gates (Niagara Falls) released the following statement in response to the Ford government admitting (https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/ontario-long-term-care-residents-care-target-1.7607561) it failed to meet its legislated four hours of direct daily care target for long-term care residents:
“Ford’s Conservatives set this target themselves… and they still missed it. The government needs to release quarterly staffing reports that would tell families which homes are meeting the standard, and which aren’t. Seniors and their loved ones are being kept in the dark. Where’s the transparency?
“Because of Bill 7, hundreds of seniors have been forced into homes they didn’t choose, sometimes over 150 kilometres away from their families. Our seniors built this province, and they deserve honesty, dignity, and the care they were promised, not secrecy and broken promises.
“The Ontario NDP is calling on the Premier to release the full provincial and home-by-home reports, and if the target is missed, follow the law: explain why and show the plan to fix it.”
