Using Trump’s tariff threats as an excuse for “rushing headlong into major projects without knowing the costs, means the governments are playing a dangerous game with our lands and futures.” – Ontario First Nations lawyer Kate Kemptom

Ontario First Nations representatives held a press conference this past July 16th to announce their plans to legally challenge federal and provincial bills that, in their view, promote economic growth at the cost of protecting and preserving our environment.
The two bills include the Ontario Ford government’s highly controversial Bill 5 and Canada’s Mark Carney’s Liberal government’s Bill C-5.
In challenging these bills, Ontario First Nations lawyer Kate Kempton stressed at the news conference that First Nations people support economic growth, but not at the cost of doing more damage or destruction to what is left of our province’s and country’s precious natural resources.
If you did not have a chance to hear Kempton speak about this at the press conference, which was broadcast live on CBC this past July 16th, I urge you to click on the screen immediately below to listen to what she has to say and judge for yourself –
