A Message from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA & Film Actor Ron Perlman

A Foreword by Niagara At Large reporter/publisher Doug Draper –
If more proof is needed that many people can’t simply enjoy a natural wonder without turning it into some version of Disney World and Las Vegas all rolled into one, look no further than Niagara Falls.
After thousands of years of Indigenous peoples living in harmony with the ‘Great Falls’ of Niagara, European settlers moved in and just look at what we’ve got there now.
Roaring rapids and one of the world’s most spectacular water falls doesn’t seem to do it for us without surrounding them with amusement park attractions, casinos, and high-rise hotels with fireworks lighting up the skies above.
Many of us who have dogs and cats for pets have been through the experience of finding them hiding under a bed or down in the basement every Canada Day when the fireworks start blasting, even when that blasting occurts several blocks away.
If you have trees in your yard, you may have seen birds and other wildlife scattering away too.
So here we are again, for at least the second or third year in a row, with PETA, one of North America’s largest animal protection groups – this time with film actor Ron Perlman – urging Niagara Falls tourist representatives to at least close the circus curtains on the nightly fireworks displays above and between the Horseshoe and American Falls.
To her credit, Niagara Falls Tourism President Janice Thomson has said that the concerns PETA and others are raising are being taken seriously and that as much as tourists seem to love those fireworks, consideration is being given to replacing them with blast-free laser beams or drones with lights.
For the sake of all the critters out there – domestic and wild – such a change could not come soon enough.
Now here is the message from PETA and Ron Perlman –
“Fireworks every night? Seriously?!”
That’s the message that Hellboy and Sons of Anarchy star Ron Perlman is sending to Niagara Falls Tourism in PETA’s new fired-up video, in which he urges the organization to end its Summer Fireworks Series and stop terrorizing wildlife, cats, and dogs with 151 nights of fireworks over the falls through October 13.

About PETA – People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is the largest animal liberation organization in the world, and PETA entities have more than 9 million members and supporters globally.
PETA opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview, and focuses its attention on the four areas in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time: in laboratories, the food industry, the clothing trade, and the entertainment business. We also work on a variety of other issues, including the cruel killing of rodents, birds, and other animals who are often considered “pests,” as well as cruelty to domesticated animals.
