Ford Announces $400M Parking Garage At Ontario Place Site While Housing Crumbles and Nature Disappears

A Statement from the Green Party of Ontario

This week, Premier Doug Ford announced a $400 million taxpayer-funded parking garage at Ontario Place right where 850 mature trees once stood.

At the same time, housing starts in Ontario have hit their lowest point in 15 years. Families, seniors, and young people are being priced out of their communities, watching the dream of home ownership slip away.

Tell Ford Ontarians need homes – not parking lots – (https://secure.gpo.ca/civicrm/mailing/url?u=212433&qid=124586588)

Ford’s plan? Pour billions into a private spa and a parking lot at the expense of vital greenspace and the habitat of over 190 bird species, monarch butterflies, foxes, and more.

What’s missing from his vision?

  • – Affordable housing where people actually want to live.
  • – Protection for the nature that keeps Ontario livable, beautiful, and resilient in the face of climate change.
  • – Leadership that puts people first.

Ontario is facing one of the worst affordability crises in Canada. And our nature is under extreme threat.

Doug Ford’s priorities couldn’t be more out of touch.

Now’s the time to show Ford just how many Ontarians are ready to stand up and say: enough.
