“Canada has what the world wants and the values to which others aspire. The G7 Leaders’ Summit in Kananaskis is a moment for Canada to work with reliable partners to meet challenges with unity, purpose, and force. Canada is ready to lead.” – Mark Carney, Prime Minister of Canada

A Brief Foreword Note from Doug Draper At Niagara At Large – The G7 countries include Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States – the first six of which U.S. President Donald Trump has shown little or no respect for and has spent his first months in office slapping punishing tariffs on that, in some cases, violate previously signed trade agreements.
Prime Minister Mark Carney notes that the upcoming G7 Summit is Alberta “is a moment for Canada to work with reliable partners.” If that is the case, the United States, under Trump, has certainly shown that it is not one of those.
So where does that place the U.S. in playing any kind of productive roll at this summit?

A computerized rendition of some of Canada’s finest chasing Trump out of our country
Trump’s anticipated presence at the Kananaski, Albert summit has prompted more than 69,000 Canadians and counting to sign a petition (https://www.change.org/p/do-not-allow-trump-to-visit-canada) urging our government to bar him from Canada on the grounds that our border officers normally refuse entry to convicted felons and Trump, you may recalled, is one of those, 34 times over https://www.npr.org/2024/05/30/g-s1-1848/trump-hush-money-trial-34-counts .
It appears that in the case of this coming G7 Summit, Trump will be allowed entry, not that getting special treatment is unusual for him – although it is interesting that he gets a pass given what a production number he makes about keeping anyone his administration chooses to claim is a felon out of his country.
It is understandable that Carney would not want to go so far as to – for the first time in history – bar a U.S. president from entering Canada. You could just imagine how much more damage Trump would try to do to our country if our prime minster poured gasoline on that wildfire.
Yet at the very least, someone in authority should at least urge Trump to behave himself while he is here, not that making that kind of request wll likely matter much to him.

Now here is the News Release from the Office of Canada’s Prime Minister –

Canada’s Prime Minister & Liberal Party Leader Mark Carney
Ottawa, Ontario – Fifty years ago, in the face of upheaval and geopolitical tensions, a small group of advanced economies formed what is now the G7 – a forum for co-operation, stability, and shared prosperity. In 2025, as global challenges intensify, the G7 must meet this moment with purpose and with force.
Today, the Prime Minister, Mark Carney, announced the priorities that will guide Canada’s 2025 G7 Leaders’ Summit, to be held in Kananaskis, Alberta, from June 15 to 17, 2025.
Anchored in building stronger economies, Canada will seek agreements and co-ordinated action on three core missions:
Protecting our communities and the world – strengthening peace and security, countering foreign interference and transnational crime, and improving joint responses to wildfires.
Building energy security and accelerating the digital transition – fortifying critical mineral supply chains and using artificial intelligence and quantum to unleash economic growth.
Securing the partnerships of the future – catalyzing enormous private investment to build stronger infrastructure, create higher-paying jobs, and open dynamic markets where businesses can compete and succeed.
Other discussions will include a just and lasting peace for Ukraine and other areas of conflict around the world, and a forward-looking agenda that engages partners beyond the G7, recognizing that our long-term security and prosperity will depend on building coalitions with reliable partners and common values.

A Footnote from Niagara At Large – Through all of this and until Trump knocks off all of the threats to Canada’s economic welfare nd sovereignty, let’s continue to stand together by buying as many Made in Canada products as we can, by shopping local at Canadian owned stores and by boycotting everything Made in the U.S.A.
