Niagara, Ontario – Niagara Emergency Medical Services paramedic, Derek Langlois, was honoured this past May 26th with an Ontario Medal for Paramedic Bravery by the Honourable Michael Tulloch, in his capacity of the Administrator of the Government of Ontario, and Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health.

Langlois, a Paramedic Superintendent, was recognized for his actions on May 13, 2023. While he was off-duty, he was notified that one of his neighbours had been stabbed outside of her home and rushed to the scene.

Despite not knowing whether the assailant was still present, his quick thinking, expert medical care, and calm under pressure were instrumental in stabilizing the patient.

“Derek’s action are a testament to the extraordinary individuals who serve as paramedics in our community,” said Rick Ferron, Niagara EMS Chief. “I can think of no one more deserving of this honour.”
