In these upside-down, inside-out Trumpian times we are living in, I’m not sure that words like “shocking,” “outrageous,” or “blasphemous” pack much of a punch any more.
For tens-of-millions of people south of the Canada-U.S. border and – I’m sorry to say – for more than a few north of it, “shocking,” “outrageous,” and “blasphemous” have become the new norm.
It wasn’t really all that long ago that if any political leader in a free and democratic country suggested even mildly that they were put there by divine right to serve God’s purpose, leaders of the opposition would spend days, if not weeks, verbally ripping them apart.
And here is at least one question I have.
If God chose to spare Trump from assassins’ bullets for some worldly purpose or reason, what does that say for Martin Luther King Jr. or Mahatma Gandhi –two champions for social justice who truly dedicated and ultimately sacrificed their lives to make the world better?

Did God take some time off on the days they were assassinated or was it just His way of proving the old axiom that ‘only the good die young?
Whatever the reason, this ‘God has spared me for a purpose’ or ‘I am an agent of God lingo is something that comes out of the mouths of autocrats or dictators.
But this is where I’m afraid we now are in the evolution or should I say, the de-evolution of humans on this planet folks.
And I think that we all should take a good hard look at our species and at least try to get a grip on the reasons why we are at this point before it is too late – if it isn’t already – to turn our ship into less treacherous waters for future generations, if not for ourselves.
Now here is Trump’s message and, yes, it is real. This is not something I downloaded from Jimmy Kimmel’s monologue or Saturday Night Live –

The truth is, I could cure cancer tomorrow and they would still protest—because their hatred for me is not about me, it’s about their fear of what we represent: a movement to Make America Great Again.
They’ve shown no interest in working with us—they want to destroy everything we’ve built.
That’s why it’s absolutely critical that we not only defend our seats in Congress but expand our majority in both the House and Senate.
