Lest We Canadians Forget, Many Americans Still Love Us

So When They Visit Canada, Let’s Continue To Give Them A Warm Welcome

A Brief Commentary by Doug Draper

One of a number of rallies Americans have organized in support of Canada

Just as many of us on the Canadian side of the border are not crossing over to the American side out of principle or fear in the wake of Trump’s trade war, I have had some of my American friends express concern to me about how welcome they would be coming here.

“Just remember Doug,” one of my dear old friends from Cape Cod, Massachusetts has told me on more than one occasion, “many of us down here are opposed to what Trump is doing too.”

I believe that and I  also feel confident telling my American friends, in spite of the odd rude incident I have learned about, that Canadians will be good to them if they come here.

One of our American neighbours holding a poster of a Canadian flag bearing the words; “Ally, Friend, Partner.”

It is important that we remember that, even while we are showing our opposition to the danger Trump is posing to our economy and sovereignty by – quite rightfully – buying Canadian and boycotting trips to and products made in the United States.

To reinforce what I am saying here is another show of support and friendship for Canadians aired on an American news network recently. You can watch it by clicking on the screen immediately below –

Just as a way of finishing this, I have not received a message from or had a conversation with one American who does not understand why we are boycotting the U.S.A. at this time or who have tried to talk me out of encouraging more of my fellow Canadians to join the boycott too. It is one of the ways that we, as individual Canadians, can send a message to Trump to knock it off.

It might even mean more if Canadians and Americans joined in sending that message together. That would  go a lot further than booing the American national anthem which, in this writer’s view and as angry at Trump as we have a right to be, was never a good idea.

A Footnote – Niagara At Large has posted this before, but in case you missed it, here is an earlier television news report of Buffalo, New York area residents showing their support for Canada. Click on the screen below to watch –
