NIAGARA FALLS – MPP Wayne Gates (Niagara Falls), who has been recently re-elected for a fifth term as the representative for Niagara Falls, Fort Erie & Niagara-on-the-Lake, has laid out his priorities for the community as the provincial legislature returns on Monday, April 14th.

“Right now, top of mind for people in Niagara is protecting local jobs and our economy from the threat of Trump’s tariffs”, said Gates.

“We must invest into supporting important local sectors, including auto, manufacturing, tourism, and agriculture. We must continue to support a buy local, buy Canadian strategy, we must knock down barriers to interprovincial trade, and we must make sure we are getting direct supports into the hands of workers and their families.”

Gates is set to re-introduce legislation next week to create a tax credit program for families to vacation in Ontario, supporting the provincial economy.

“In the recent election, at the doorstep, people in Niagara were also concerned about the state of our health care system and protecting local access here in the community”, said Gates.

“We must invest more into our public health care services, while reducing wait times for services like MRIs. Too many people right now do not have a family doctor – we need to make sure getting everyone primary care is a top priority.”

Gates previously introduced legislation to hire more family doctors and remains committed to defending local urgent care services in Fort Erie. Gates also plans to continue to work to introduce a caregivers benefit to support unpaid care work across the province.
