A News Release from Canadians for Tax Fairness
Posted March 28th, 2025 on Niagara At Large

Federal Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre recently said he would “axe the tax” for Canada’s largest industrial emitters of climate-ravaging carbon pollution.
This past March 18th, 2025, at a press conference, federal Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre recklessly promised to eliminate federal industrial carbon pricing, rules that ensure big polluters pay for the pollution they cause.
If it wasn’t already obvious, it is now. ‘Axe the tax’ was never about helping Canadians. It’s about giving oil and gas corporations a free pass to pollute while the rest of us pay the price in the air we breathe and the communities we lose to wild fires every year.
Canada must stay the course on reducing emissions. We need fair tax policies that ensure the wealthy and big corporations contribute their fair share more than ever. That’s why we continue to push for excess profits taxes and other key measures in our [Taxes and the path to a green economy report](https://www.taxfairness.ca/civicrm/mailing/url?u=7149&qid=1857199).
We will never let up on our fight to win a tax system that supports Canadian investment in a green, inclusive and affordable economy.
With a federal election on the horizon, we need to make sure tax fairness is a priority for the next government.
