Niagara Falls, Ontario  – The Niagara Falls Illumination Board will be illuminating both the Canadian Horseshoe and American Falls in green on March 17 for 15-minutes at the top each hour, beginning at 8:00 p.m., in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day.

The illumination is carried out each year as part of Tourism Ireland’s “Global Greening” initiative, which sees hundreds of iconic landmarks from around the world lit in green to mark the occasion.

Some revelers from a past St. Patrick’s Day paradge in Buffalo, N.Y. file photo by Doug Draper

Every year on the closest Sunday to St. Patick’s Day, which happens to be this Sunday, March 16th,Buffalo, New York holds its annual St. Patrick’s Day parade – a long, colourful and happy procession along Delaware Avenue and one of the larges parades of its kind in American.

My wife Mary and I have always made an effort to cross the border and enjoy this event which always make you feel you are Irish for the day whether you are Irish or not. But not this year.

Like so many of our fellow Canadians we are not crossing the Canada-U.S. border for any reason because of the insults and threatens aimed at our country from Donald Trump and his MAGA army.

We hope, though, that our friends and neighbours in the Buffalo, N.Y. area will stand together with us in pressing Trump to stop these threats to both of our economies and to Canada’s sovereignty which are causing so much division between our countries.
