A computerized depiction of Trump being chased out of Canada by some of our most iconic furry and feathered friends

An online petition is catching fire as it circulates across Canada, asking our federal government to use its powers under the law to bare Donald Trump, the self-proclaimed “King” in the White House, from entering Canada.

The petition was drawn up by Sarah Boston, a fellow Canadian citizen and veterinary surgical oncologist living in Ottawa, with an eye to a summit of G7 leaders, including the President of the United States, scheduled to take place in Alberta Canada this coming June.

As Sarah points out in her petition, convicted felons from other countries are normally not allowed entry to Canada.

Indeed, the exact wording of this border crossing restriction, copied from a Government of Canada website, reads like this –

A sketch of Trump in New York State court prior to being convicted last year on 34 felony charges

“Normally you cannot enter or stay in Canada if you are inadmissible. However, there are ways of overcoming your criminal inadmissibility.

If you are inadmissible, you may become admissible again if you:

satisfy an immigration or border services officer that you meet the legal requirements to be deemed rehabilitated;

apply for individual rehabilitation and get approved; or

receive a pardon or record suspension.”

As most of you no doubt remember, in the spring of 2024, Trump stood trial and was convicted by a 12-person jury of his peers in a New York State on all 34 count brought against him by state prosecutors of “falsifying business record” to cover of payments made to a porn star and to buy her silence.

There has never been a hint of remorse from Trump, let alone any record of him seeking rehabilitation.

Therefore, the petitioner is urging Canadian authorities to deny Trump entry to our country.

This may seem like a harsh way of treating the leader of a once-friendly neighbouring country, but lest anyone forget, this petition also comes in the wake of Trump continuously threatening to “annex” or “take over” Canada with punishing tariffs that would wreak havoc on our economy and the lives of virtually every person across our country.

Also keep in mind that individuals who have been convicted of much lesser crimes are routinely  barred from entering our country.

In a Canada that stands for fair and equal treatment under the law, why should Trump be treated any differently.

And Once Again, let’s all continue to stand up for our Canada by buying as many Canadian products as we can and by boycotting anything made in the U.S.A. and by cancelling any visits to the United States in favour of travelling in our own or other in other countries we can still count on as friends.
