A Brief Commentary by Doug Draper

Three years have now passed since Putin began his all-out illegal military assault on the sovereign nation of Ukraine – an invasion that has so far resulted in the tragic deaths of hundreds of thousands of soldiers on both sides, including the slaughter of unarmed men, women and children across that war-torn nation.
Even as the new Trump administration in the United States bows to the likes of Putin and seems ready to knife Ukraine in the back, here is hoping that a majority of Canadians will continue supporting Ukraine in any way that we can.
I trust that most, if not all of us in Canada know that good friends and allies embrace the belief that we should support each other. They do not threaten them with economic harm and repeated brash talk about ‘annexing’ or ‘taking over’ their homeland. And they don’t resort to mob-like tactics like trying to extort them for their resources in return for any further support.
In that spirit, I hope that our Canada will continue to Ukraine until Putin gets the message that our country and our democratic allies will never let the invasion of sovereign states of the kind that unfolded 80 years ago in Europe, leading to a world war that destroyed the lives of millions of people under the evil of Hitler, happen again!
