Whatever Happened to that friend and ally we used to know?

Since Trump’s comeback as America’s Reality TV version of a strongman in the White House, I’ve heard and read so many of my fellow Canadians say on radio phone-ins or in one written venue or another that they have decided – at least for the time being – not to cross the border into the United States.
If or when they are asked why they won’t cross the border, a significant number of them say that they are afraid.
They say they are that Trump has changed the United States into a place that is less friendly and may even be more dangerous place for Canadians and other non-Americans to visit.
Then there as all of the insulting and troubling talk from America’s dear leader about annexing Canada and turning it into a 51st state.
More than a few of my fellow Canadians have even used the F-word to describe what they feel the United States has become under the iron fists of Trump and his Nazi-saluting, billionaire, co-dictator, Elon Musk.
And no, I’m not talking about the four letter F-word. I’m talking about the seven letter one – fascism.
That might seem a harsh way of describing a country that, not so long ago, was our closest friend and ally but if you have been paying close attention to what has been unfolding south of the border since Trump and Musk took grip to the levers of power, read the list of warning signs on the poster below and consider how many look familiar too you –
“When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross.”― the late James Waterman Wise, an author, art dealer and lecturer who warned against Nazism before Hitler came to power.
