We, The People of Canada, Need To Continue Standing Up To the U.S. Bully

Let’s Keep Standing Together By Boycotting ‘Made In The U.S.A.’ & By Cancelling All Visits To The U.S.A.

As a Canadian, I could not be prouder at all of the news that growing numbers of my fellow citizens are responding to Trump’s threats of waging a trade war and of taking over our country  by force by buying as many ‘Made In Canada’ products as we can, by boycotting produces ‘Made In The U.S.A. and  by cancelling day trips and vacations to the United States.

Some Canadian “snowbirds” are even selling their properties in the southern United States!

The bully in the White House has unleashed a movement that, out of his own stupidity and ignorance of how much most Canadians care for their country,  he   may not have seen here coming – a movement I hope continues to grow until  it hurts business in his country so much that he has no choice but to back off.

Indeed, we the Canadian people, should keep up  the momentum even if political leaders in our own country have backed off or postponed taking any retaliatory measures out of a fanciful belief that they can negotiate some way out of these threats with someone who stomps his feet like like a four-year-old brat if he doesn’t get what HE wants and who only cares about money and power.

Say NO to wine and booze from the U.S.A. and press Ontario Premier Doug Ford to follow through on his vow to remove them from the LCBO shelves NOW

So just as an example, even if Ontario Premier Doug Ford will not yet follow through on his pledge to pull all U.S.-made alcoholic beverages from the shelves of LCBO stores, that doesn’t mean that we have to buy them when there are plenty of others fine wines and spirits produced across Canada and other countries in the world that are more friendly to us.

So what if the Governor of Kentucky complains that a collapse in sales in Ontario of bourbons produced in his Trump-loving state would be economically “devastating.”

If that is a problem, let him take it up with the madman in the White House who started this whole thing.

And what about tropical fruit and beverages from Trump hotspots like Florida. If you like oranges as much as I do, I just picked up some nice oranges from Spain and Morocco in one of our local grocery stores that taste just fine.

To hell with Florida oranges. Buy oranges produced in more friendly places like Spain and Morocco instead.

So Kiss Sunkist, along with all other products made in the U.S.A., a hasty and unceremonious goodbye!

As far as travel to the states is concerned, I heard a report on CBC this week that Canadians normally spend more than $20 billion dollars annually during trips to the U.S.A. That’s a good kick in the pocketbook if we all stay home in Canada or do our travelling in   Europe or in other regions of the world that are more friendly to us.

I was struck recently by something a retired  Canadian diplomat said about bullies like Trump who want to show off a posture of strength and dominance over others.

In the Holiday Season movie favorite, A Christmas Story, young Ralphie deals with a bully about the only way a person can to stop them from going after you.

He said that one of the lessons we all should have learned from our early years in the schoolyard is that most, if not all bullies are really just cowards who go around looking for the smallest, weakest people they can find to pick on. The minute you turn around and give them a hard punch in the nose, that’s it. They usually run away.

We should never forget that lesson – especially now – and our political leaders here in Canada should remember it too.

So let’s keep punching!

Let’s keep standing up together for Canada and saying NO to visiting or buying anything made in the United States until Trump shuts the hell and leaves our country alone.

He Can Stand Us Up At The Gates Of Hell  But Let’s Never Back Down To This MAGA Monster In The U.S.A.

A Brief Footnote – For those who may wonder, I take no joy in writing pieces like this. I have many good friends and acquaintances in the Buffalo, N.Y. area and in Massachusetts and other regions of the northeastern United States – most of who did not vote for Trump. And I know that many of them feel as badly about all of this as many of us north of the Canada-U.S. border do.

But the bottom line is this.

We Canadians did not start this fight and we have to stand up for our communities and our country. If our friends and acquantances in the United States feel bad about that, let them put pressure on their political leaders to tell Trump shut his attacks on a long-time friend and ally down.

  1. Bullies have to be given a taste of their own medicine in order to convince them to stop. As far as I can see, Trump has little idea of how to work with other people. His style of management – of himself and other people – is one where he completely fails to consult the people who will be affected by his proposed actions. He has no intention of getting any feedback on the consequences prior to acting, which is DICTATORSHIP (“Do as I say OR ELSE…”) and NOBODY likes THAT.

  2. Canadians have stood together to repel previous American attempts to absorb our country.

In 1776, when Americans attacked Quebec, the French settlers, British army and their Indigenous allies defeated them,

Again, in 1812, the alliance of settlers, Indigenous warriors and British solders repelled the American invasion.

Now Trump is attempting to engineer an American economic invasion of Canada.

We must stand together with and for all the people of Canada.
