Our Canada Is Worth Standing Up For Against the MAGA Forces South of the Border

Two and a half centuries after Americans fought to free themselves from the shackles of Crown rule, more than 70 million of them have voted to bring something that looks like a monarchy, with all the trappings of unelected, billionaire barons, back again.

On top of that their new ‘King Donald’ has been bellowing away about wanting to do some empire building, beginning with a takeover by military or economic force of the Panama Canal, of Greenland  and of our Canada.

With the exception of Trump acolytes like Alberta Premier Danielle Smith and federal Conservative leader and prime minister wannabe Pierre Poilievre and their most ardent followers (in the case Poilievre, a recent national poll shows that 20 per cent of his supporters wouldn’t mind joining the United States) here is hoping that on this January 20th inauguration day for the new king, the rest of us make a promise to ourselves and each other to do everything within reason to fight back against anything hostile the orange-face bully tries to hurl our way.

Over the past two months, Trump has repeatedly threatened Canada with annexation

For everyday Canadians, that could include no longer crossing the border and spending our money in the United States and refusing to buy anything made in the U.S.A. to directing our banks and any financial investors we may have not to invest our money in U.S. corporations.

Whatever counter measures are at our disposal as Canadian citizens, let’s make a pledge to stand up together for Canada, and let’s not back down.
