A Brief One, Written and Shared with You, just for a little escape and end-of-the-year fun, by Doug Draper

Singer/songwriter Taylor Swift appears on the cover of Time Magazine’s 2023 “Person of the Year” edition
As so many music and pop culture observers have said in recent times, ‘It’s Taylor Swift’s world and we’re just living in it.”
With all of the Taylor Swift magazine covers, the legions of ‘Swifties’, some of them waiting for days wherever she is, just a glimpse of her, and with all of the billions of dollars generated from her recently completed Eras Tour, it certainly seems that way.
But every once in a while, there is enough oxygen left on the music scene for other artists – even for a group of musicians that broke up some 55 years ago.
That group, is The Beatles which, when it comes to adoration, was to the 1960s what Taylor Swift is today.

The Beatles then and Taylor Swift now
And just this past November, The Beatles were nominated for 2025 Grammy Awards in two categories – – Record of the Year and Best Rock Performance of the Year – for a single called ‘Here and Now’ which John Lennon wrote and recorded at home in the 1970s and which, thanks to the magic of artificial intelligence and modern-day recording technology, all four members of the band, including Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and the late George Harrison are also heard playing and singing on.
It is the first nomination The Beatles, as a group, has received since the single ‘Hey Jude’, and their last officially released album ‘Abbey Road’ and the sound score for the film ‘Let It Be’ were nominated in 1969 and 1970, and since another song, ‘Free As A Bird’, also written and recorded at home by the late John Lennon, and dubbed over with the other three band members in the late 1990s.
If you haven’t heard what may be the last “new” Beatles song yet, here it is for you to listen to by clicking on –
A Footnote – When I first heard this “new” recording after it was released earlier this 2024, I could not help but remember sitting in front of the TV when I was a young kid in 1964. watching The Beatles’ first North American performance on Ed Sullivan, one of the popular variety show at the time.

The Beatles make their first North American appearance on Ed Sullivan in February,1964
At one pointduring that first North American television appearance, my father, like so many other parents at the time, shook his head and said words to the effect of; ‘A year from now (meaning by around the end of 1964), no one will even remember them.’
Well dad, you were on the mark about a lot of things but on this one, here they still are, nominated for a top award in the world of music, 60 years after that first North American performance.
The 2025 Grammy Awards will be handed out this coming February 2nd unless for some crazy reason the by then-inaugurated U.S. President, Donald Trump, cancels them.
