Ontario Place, along the Lake Ontario shoreline in Toronto was once truly viewed by millions of visitors to it as a peoples’ place – public commons for all to spend the day and enjoy. Now thanks to Ford and his masters in the development industry, pieces of it are being turned into a parking lot, a private spa and what is next for what is left? And yes Ford is using billions of dollars of our tax money, and counting, to pay for this vandalism of this great public place.
“After wasting billions of taxpayer dollars subsidizing a luxury spa on Toronto’s waterfront, and tipping the scales with an unfair procurement process, the (Ontario Ford government) Minister responsible is missing in action.
“Minister Surma has repeatedly refused to take responsibility for the mess that her Ministry has made, but enough is enough. She needs to resign. And if she won’t, the Premier (Doug Ford) needs to take responsibility, do the right thing, and fire his Infrastructure Minister.”
A scathing report from the Auditor General (released (this past December 3rd, 2024) found the Ontario Place redevelopment project has been rife with preferential treatment and out-of-control costs.
