An Old Song That Seems More In Tune To What We Need Now

A Brief One from Doug Draper

George Harrison during his solo years.

While sitting at home, watching a tribute concert for former Beatle George Harrison on the eve of his untimely death 23 years ago this November 29th at age 58, one of his songs, more than all the other great ones he wrote, hit a chord for our times.

“Give me love. … Give me peace on earth.…Give me hope, help me cope with this heavy load,” so some of the lyrics of the song go.

The song, released in 1973, is called Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth) and for me, at least, it seems to speak to so much of what we could all use more of with all of the division and conflict between people and nations that we are facing now.

Toward the end of the song, we are offered a possible remedy that is worth giving a try; “Please take hold of my hand, that I might understand you.”

Thank you George for leaving us those sage words. R.I.P.
