Bike lanes have become the latest political wedge that Doug Ford is using to rile up his base. Ford is ignoring all the evidence that says bike lanes are good for traffic, local businesses, and addressing climate change and is threatening to rip up bike lanes.
Adding an additional lane of traffic will only encourage more people to drive. More people driving will mean more traffic and we’ll end up back where we started, only anyone who chooses to keep cycling will have a much more dangerous commute to work.
Cyclists around Ontario are dying far too often because of unsafe road conditions. Last week Ontario Greens’ Deputy Leader, [Aislinn Clancy spoke at a rally](https://secure.gpo.ca/civicrm/mailing/url?u=202316&qid=106540481) for cyclist safety, firing up the crowd and calling for the MPP’s making these decisions to get out on a bike and see what their decisions will mean for cyclists.

If we want to solve our traffic problems, we must give people more affordable choices in how they get around (not less!) – choices like biking, walking or taking public transit instead of being stuck in gridlock for hours on end.
We need to do better.
