OTTAWA — Canadians are already living through the deadly and catastrophic impacts of the climate emergency while Justin Trudeau and his minister of Environment Steven Guilbeault give huge handouts to big polluters. That’s not a climate plan the next government should stick to, according to the NDP.
Canadians pay 14-times more than big polluters like Suncor in Trudeau’s system. And he still isn’t hitting a single one of our climate targets.
Justin Trudeau destroyed any credibility his plan had when he did a home heating carve out that benefitted one part of the country over others—and the Liberal team made it clear that was an election ploy.
Jagmeet Singh and the NDP have repeatedly called for stronger climate action and to hold big polluters accountable—which the Liberals have rejected again and again:
- * The NDP proposed Canada stop subsidizing big oil and gas. The Liberals kept handing out billions.
- * The NDP called for big oil and gas to pay their fair share on their excess profits, with a commitment to use the funds to save people money on home heating and transportation. The Liberals took the side of big oil and gas instead.
- * The NDP has called for better transit funding for big cities. The Liberals said no.
