QUEEN’S PARK – Marit Stiles, the Ontario NDP leader, has released the following in response to reports (https://www.thetrillium.ca/insider-news/education-and-training/province-to-charge-child-care-centres-in-government-buildings-full-market-rate-rents-in-2025-9338553) about the Ford government raising the rents on child-care centres by next year:
“Affordable child-care is a necessity, not a luxury,” said Stiles. “Over the last few years, parents and child-care workers have been saddled with uncertainty as the province drags its feet on delivering $10 a day child-care.
“Now, Doug Ford and his politicians are forcing a rent hike on child-care centres already struggling to keep the lights on. This is heartless. Who is he building this province for? Certainly not for the kids who are stuck on never-ending wait lists or families who are having to make difficult decisions as child-care becomes scarcer by the day.
“We are demanding the province to release the funding formula now, so families and child-care providers can plan for the future instead of being stuck in limbo. You deserve a government that cares about the same things you care about, I promise you, that as the next Premier, together, we will make that a reality.”

Parents who are already struggling to make ends meet must begin to realize that voting for another Conservative government is NEVER going to help them achieve economic stability.
