Comic and actor icon Bob Newhart
If he was standing in a check-out line behind you at a coffee shop or a grocery store, you would never take him for a successful comedian, film actor or award-winning television star.
Yet Bob Newhart, a multiple Emmy Award winner for his hit sitcoms, ‘The Bob Newhart Show’ and its 1980s follow-up, simply called ‘Newhart’, not to mention a recipient of the prestigious Mark Twain Award for American Humour, was all of those things.
He was by almost all accounts a very nice, everyday guy who also happened to be very funny.

Bob Newhart was a frequent guest on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson
Bob Newhart died this past Thursday, July 18th at age 94 and at a time in our collective history that there is not all that much to laugh about, it is sad to lose someone who could always, so easily, make generations of us all laugh.
So let me leave you with one of the many skits Bob Newhart did where he has an imaginary conversation on a telephone with one historic figure or another. This phone call is with the late 1500s’, early 1600s’ British seaman and explorier, Sir Walter Raliegh.
