MPP Catherine Fife, NDP Finance critic, released the following statement in response to the Financial Accountability Office (FAO)’s latest review (https://www.fao-on.org/en/Blog/Publications/2023-24-expenditure-monitor-q4) of government spending, which revealed that the government failed to spend $7.8 billion of its budget last year, including $1.3 billion less in health care spending than planned:
“Empty promises – that’s what Ford and his politicians are best at. He loves a flashy photo op and a promise to invest in public services, but never follows through.
Today we see that over a billion dollars have been left unspent in the health sector, while ERs are closing, and hospitals are facing deficits across the province.
Ford has the resources to fix things and he loves making big promises – but he’s nowhere to be found once the photo op is finished.”
