A Song For the Sharing on Canada Day

A Song and Video for Living in Harmony with the Life Around Us

Some Introductory Comments by Doug Draper at Niagara At Large

Posted June 30th/July 1st, 2024

On this Canada Day weekend, when we all want to get away from the news and spend some time good time together with our families, friends and others in our communities, I only want to share with you one song and video.

The first big hit-making lineup of The Guess Who, from left, Garry Peterson, Randy Bachman, Burton Cummings and Jim Kale

The song is by one of Canada’s best all-time bands, the Guess Who, and the video that goes with it was produced by Greenpeace and is a moving look at some of the natural grandeur around it and the tragedy of losing more of it if we collectively, as a species, go on with business as usual and don’t do everything in our capacity to find more harmonious ways of living with it.

I continue to believe that we the people can come together for the sake of life on this planet and there are also some shining examples in this region and others of everyday citizens doing just that.

As for politicians and developers, that’s an entirely different story.

With the exception of a very few who have demonstrated a record of caring for the environment, every politician at every level of government in the country should be strapped down in a chair and be made to listen to watch the song and video I am posting here all day.

Then there are their corporate masters in the development industry. Trying to play nice with appeals to those greedy vandals is a waste of time. They would cut down the Comfort Maple if they thought they could get away with it.

The only thing that might stop them from destroying more of our natural heritage is much tougher, zero tolerance regulations coupled with stiff penalties, including the possibility of jail time, for violators.

With that, you can listen to and watch the song and video by clicking on the screen below and if you don’t get a chance to check it out during the holiday weekend, please give it a listen and watch sometime in the days or weeks ahead –

Here is wishing you a Happy Canada Day. Doug Draper, Niagara At Large
