New Portfolio Focused on Intensive Industries as part of Ministry of Energy and Electrification

BEAMSVILLE – Hon. Doug Ford, Premier of Ontario, unveiled his renewed team that will keep rebuilding the province’s economy and deliver on the government’s core commitments, including building critical infrastructure, keeping costs down by fighting the carbon tax and training more people for rewarding careers in the skilled trades.

 With the update to cabinet, Sam Oosterhoff, MPP for Niagara West, was sworn in yesterday as Associate Minister of Energy – Intensive Industries.

The new portfolio will be focused on intensive industries and last mile grid expansions, serving along side Hon. Stephen Lecce, Minister of Energy and Electrification.

“I am looking forward to working closely with Minister Lecce to build the necessary energy infrastructure to supply the record capital investments from domestic and international companies who are expanding in Ontario,” said Minister Oosterhoff.

“I am thankful that the Premier is giving me this opportunity to help build up our economy and deliver on our core commitments for workers and job creators.”

“As our province and economy continue to grow, this is the team that is working side-by-side with workers, businesses, labour partners, Indigenous leaders and every member of Team Ontario to rebuild our economy,” said Premier Ford.

“We are at an important moment in our province’s history with clear choices.  Our team is choosing growth and prosperity.  We are choosing lower taxes and better jobs with bigger paycheques.”

(This June’s) monthly employment release by Statistics Canada shows Ontario added nearly 50,000 jobs in May.  For the fifth consecutive month, employment in Ontario has increased, reinforcing the Ontario government’s plan to rebuild the economy with better jobs and bigger paycheques by investing in people and communities while keeping costs down.

“Whether its in our manufacturing, technology or agricultural sectors, our government will continue to create the conditions for job growth and work to ensure our workers and job creators can thrive,” said Minister Oosterhoff.

“I look forward to ensuring that our government continues to provide the right investments and tools to help the province’s businesses thrive, including right here at home in Niagara.”
