A Shout-Out to the Ford Government and to All of Us from the Green Party of Ontario

If you’ve got a cage, you’re in business.
IN ONTARIO THERE ARE NEXT TO NO REGULATIONS TO KEEP YOU FROM STARTING YOUR OWN ROADSIDE ZOO WITH TIGERS, MONKEYS, KANGAROOS – WHATEVER!
No minimum enclosure sizes, no visitor safety standards, no standards for animal care.
As a result, animal welfare organizations continue to document a wide range of inhumane practices at Ontario’s roadside zoos: animals in tiny cages without proper enrichment; insufficient protection from cold and heat, disregard for animals’ complex social needs – the list goes on and on.
As spring approaches, roadside zoos will put their exotic animals on display once again
Tell Ford to ban roadside zoos.
Other provinces have implemented provincial licensing systems to prevent this abuse from taking place – but among all of them, Ontario ranks dead last.
We’re calling on the Ford government to take immediate steps to implement the standards laid out by World Animal Protection to create real protections and enforcement for animal care.
And that’s just the first step towards banning roadside zoos once and for all.
