SAY NO to Ford’s Move to Create Loopholes in Ontario’s Endangered Species Act

The Government of Ontario is proposing changes to regulations under the Endangered Species Act (ESA), 2007 to “streamline” its implementation and speed up development projects.

If approved, these changes will create new loopholes endangering species at risk and their habitats.

The proposed amendments are yet another example of the government’s relentless push to prioritize development over fundamental environmental protections. The amendments fly in the face of the legislated purpose of the ESA: “to protect species that are at risk and their habitats, and to promote the recovery of species that are at risk.”

The deadline to submit public comments is February 20, 2024. Please join us in and more than 3,200 other Ontario Nature supporters in urging Minister Khanjin not to proceed with the proposed regulatory changes.

Together, we must be the voice for nature and send the government a loud, unified message like we did with the proposal to unwind Greenbelt protections.
