We may have won back our Greenbelt but in Doug Ford’s Ontario the fight to protect our farmland, forests and wetlands is never ending.
When is the urban sprawl over what is left of our life-sustaining food-growing lands and green places for other living creatures going to end? Perhaps only when Ontario’s Ford government is thrown out of power.
The Premier’s sprawl agenda hasn’t changed. Now, instead of the Greenbelt, he’s using urban boundary expansions to force municipalities to abandon their own urban planning priorities and open up land for sprawl housing.
And guess who stands to benefit? The same well-connected insiders who were set to cash in on the Greenbelt giveaway.

Protect Our Farmland
Just like the Greenbelt, these land grabs have nothing to do with solving the housing crisis. Local governments have spent decades developing growth plans for their municipalities. Ford is forcing sprawl onto municipalities that will saddle them with debt for decades to come.
Ontario Greens have real solutions to build more homes for everyone – solutions that municipalities are on board with.
