Stiles: Ford blocks Greenbelt investigation

QUEEN’S PARK – Marit Stiles, Leader of the Official Opposition NDP, released the following statement after Ford’s Conservatives blocked the formation of a Special Investigative Committee that would open accountability and transparency on the corrupt Greenbelt deal:

“This is shameful, even with this government’s track record. Ford has admitted his corrupt Greenbelt grab was flawed – but has no interest in getting to the bottom of what happened. He’s ducking accountability at every turn and blocking the chance to have trust restored in his own government.

Why? What is he trying to hide?”

Last week, Marit Stiles and the Official Opposition NDP tabled a motion (https://www.ontariondp.ca/news/ndp-demands-committee-investigate-ford-s-greenbelt-corruption) to form a Special Investigative Committee that would investigate the Conservatives’ corrupt Greenbelt Grab. Conservatives voted against it today.

In 2013, the Conservatives supported the creation of the same kind of committee (https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/wynne-willing-to-have-committee-probe-gas-plant-controversy-1.1345219) to investigate misconduct in the Liberals’ gas plant scandal. It was created with support from all three parties in the Legislature.

Clearly Ford’s Conservatives think the rules don’t apply to them.
