A Percentage of proceeds from book sales between July 5th & 7th will go to funding low-cost legal services to people incarcerated in immigrant camps run by the U.S. Border Patrol
A Call-Out for Support from Burning Books, an independent bookstore on 420 Connecticut Street in Buffalo, New York

Burning Books has joined #BookstoresAgainstBorders – 10% of our proceeds from July 5-7 go to help separated families, detained families, unaccompanied minors, and others who are seeking asylum in the United States!
Gretchen Treu, co-owner of A Room of One’s Own bookstore in Madison, is spearheading a fundraising campaign, #BookstoresAgainstBorders.
Treu is asking independent bookstores across the country to join A Room of One’s Own in donating a percentage of their sales during the July 5-7 holiday weekend to the Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services [RAICES], a Texas-based organization that provides low-to-no-cost legal services to the people who are incarcerated in the immigrant camps run by the U.S. Border Patrol.
These camps have been much in the news lately, due to their inhumane living conditions for the inhabitants, many of them children separated from their parents when attempting to enter the country.
“I feel furious, I feel helpless,” Treu said. “To think of children very like mine living in the conditions we’re seeing, in the richest country in the world, in the supposed ‘land of the free,’ that is such a deep and growing anger in me. I can’t keep doing only what I have been doing.”

“We are doing this not only to raise more money for this vital organization but to show the country we are more than just places of business, we are members of our communities in ways that go far beyond the transactional.”
You can join #BookstoresAgainstBorders this July 5-7, right here in Buffalo by stopping by Burning Books (420 Connecticut Street, 11am-7pm), making online purchases at burningbooks.com (check out some of our rad immigration and border related titles below), or through this online fundraiser (mention Burning Books). Let’s be an ally in struggle against borders!
