“The LCHS welcomes the opportunity to provide leadership in continuing to protect animal in all of Niagara.” – Kevin Strooband, Executive Director and Inspector, Lincoln County Humane Society.
News from the Lincoln Country Humane Society in Niagara, Ontario

In March 2019, the Ontario SPCA made a decision to withdraw from cruelty investigations within the province of Ontario, as of June 28, 2019. The LCHS, being one of its affiliates, was subject to this decision.
In keeping in line with its mandate to protect animals, the LCHS approached the Ontario government requesting to be part of the interim solution while a new system and legislation are being created.
The Ministry and the Solicitor General agreed and worked with LCHS and several other humane societies outside of Niagara to facilitate a working arrangement that would protect animals moving forward.
In Niagara, similar to the Ontario SPCA, both the Welland & District SPCA and the Niagara Falls Humane Society (Niagara SPCA & Humane Society) have also chosen to withdraw from protecting animals through animal cruelty and neglect investigations.
Taking effect June 29, 2019, the Ontario government formalized an agreement with the LCHS to provide cruelty investigations for all 12 municipalities within the Niagara Region. This interim measure will continue until December 31, 2019. LCHS has also created a partnership with the Fort Erie SPCA relating to investigations.
“The LCHS welcomes the opportunity to provide leadership in continuing to protect animal in all of Niagara” said Kevin Strooband, Executive Director and Inspector, Lincoln County Humane Society. “We could not let animals be left unprotected in our area and applaud the government for their work and partnership with our Humane Society” he continued.
Municipalities and other stakeholders are encouraged to provide residents with the following communication methods to reach the LCHS for animal cruelty or neglect matters:
