Queen’s Park, Toronto – Following the release of the federal budget this Tuesday, February 27th, Ontario NDP Leader Andrea Horwath released the following statement:
“Tuesday’s federal budget showed Ontarians that to have universal pharmacare as soon as possible, we need to launch the Ontario NDP’s plan – not wait for Ottawa.
Tuesday’s budget included not one dollar for the implementation of pharmacare. Yet another study is not the news families wanted to hear.
Every month, millions of Ontarians shell out for asthma inhalers, blood pressure pills or so many other prescriptions. Every month that the federal government stalls by conducting studies is another month that families will pay out of pocket for their medicine, a basic part of medical care.
Our plan, Pharmacare for Everyone, will provide prescription drug coverage for all Ontarians regardless of age, income, job status or health status – and I’m as committed as ever to start implementing it right after the election.
I hope the rest of Canada follows suit, but Ontarians shouldn’t have to wait.”
