Niagara Falls MPP Wayne Gates
Niagara, Ontario – This November 7th, Wayne Gates, MPP for Niagara Falls, partnered with Insurance Bureau of Canada to donate carbon monoxide alarms for the homes of Niagara Falls residents and to raise awareness of the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Niagara Falls MPP Wayne Gates“I’m happy to partner with the Niagara Falls Fire Department and the Insurance Bureau of Canada to distribute these CO alarms and raise awareness about the issue of carbon monoxide in homes,” said Gates. “Now people in the community can call our friends at the Niagara Falls Fire Department and receive a CO alarm free of charge.”
IBC contributed 150 carbon monoxide alarms to the Niagara Falls Fire Department, in Niagara Falls, Ontario, for local distribution. As part of their campaign to raise awareness about the need for carbon monoxide alarms in all homes with a fuel burning appliance or attached garage, IBC has so far donated over 900 alarms to fire departments across Ontario, and is donating additional units over the coming months.
“We would like to thank the Insurance Bureau of Canada for the generous donation of Carbon Monoxide Alarms and for recognizing the importance of these alarms in alerting occupants to the dangers of the silent killer Carbon Monoxide,” said Jim Boutilier, Chief, Niagara Falls Fire Department.
“Despite the serious threat of carbon monoxide poisoning, many Canadians do not have carbon monoxide alarms in their home,” said Kim Donaldson, Vice-President Ontario, IBC. “Events like today help create awareness about the steps Ontarians can take to protect themselves and their families.”
Ontario law requires that carbon monoxide alarms be installed in all residential dwellings that contain at least one fuel-burning appliance (e.g., gas water heater or gas furnace), fireplace or an attached garage.
