“This is ‘good news’, says Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Trump’s plans to forge ahead with the Keystone XL pipeline. “I’ve been on the record for many years supporting it because it leads to economic growth and good jobs for Alberta.”

Friend –
Trump isn’t wasting any time. The new US President has approved the Keystone XL and Dakota Access pipelines.
Remember Keystone XL? It’s the pipeline Justin Trudeau wants to build, and will move bitumen and toxic solvents from Alberta to refineries in the US. President Obama had rejected it, but now, thanks to Trump, it’s back from the dead. And Justin Trudeau’s Cabinet has reaffirmed their support for the project, right on the heels of approving the Kinder Morgan and Line 3 pipelines.
Talk around the Keystone XL pipeline feeds into a big misconception: that a new pipeline will put unemployed Albertans back to work. That’s not true.

The Keystone pipe’s pathway from the tar sands in Alboerta to refineries in Texas
Once Keystone is completed, any jobs created during construction will be exported to Illinois and Texas along with the bitumen.
With the price of oil as low as it has been in recent years, the economics behind building new pipelines just doesn’t make sense. It leads to more oil sands expansion, and more greenhouse gas emissions. The Keystone XL pipeline isn’t fair to Albertans and it isn’t fair to Canadians determined to curb climate change.
Thanks for your support,
Emily, Executive Director
