Here are messages, posted below from two citizens groups, Hamilton 350 and Environment Hamilton, providing details on the coming ‘Hamilton2Paris’ march and rally in that city.

From Environment Hamilton –

On November 29th, 2015, people around the world are coming together to unify in advocacy of climate change. November 30th sparks the beginning of the #COP21 talks in Paris and many Hamilton groups will be part of that effort to promote citizen engagement, environmental awareness and ultimately show our leaders that we are watching.

Various groups will meet at pressure points in the downtown core between 2pm and 2:30pm and merge at City Hall for 3pm.

Just after 3pm there will be speeches and commencement of activities soon afterwards.

The Environment Hamilton contingent will be leaving our offices (22 Wilson St. in Hamilton, Suite 4) at 2:45pm. Before this, you are welcome to join us in letter signing to our officials, starting at 2pm.

A Faith Contingent is also being organized. It leaves at 2:30pm from the First Unitarian Church at Dundurn, Hamilton. Please let me know which one you would like to walk with.

Please bring signs and banners. Organizing roups will have aerial photography documenting the merge.

This event is part of the Global Climate March. On November 30th, world leaders meet in Paris to start negotiating the next global climate deal. That’s why, the day before, people around the world will take to the streets and push leaders at every level of government to commit to 100% clean energy. Together, we can push the world towards a climate deal that gets us off dirty energy and unleashes clean energy for all.hamilton climage rally

From Hamilton 350 –

HAMILTON2PARIS CLIMATE RALLY.

What:  Rally at City Hall on the international day of climate action

When:  3:00 pm Sunday November 29th 2015 (the day before UN climate treaty discussions begin in Paris, France)

Where:  Hamilton City Hall. First Nations will welcome other groups ‘migrating’ from various locations across Hamilton and Burlington, these groups having used climate-friendly means such as walking, cycling or using public transit to reach this destination.

Why:  The biggest climate summit of the decade starts on November 30, and our leaders could reach an effective agreement to get the world off fossil fuels and navigate away from climate catastrophe, while signalling to politicians, boardrooms and stock-markets everywhere that the era of dirty energy is over. Winning won’t be easy — but if we make leaders feel the power of this movement then we can win.

Many groups pledge to work together, with all of our various knowledge and skill sets, for solutions to climate related problems. Environment Hamilton’s contingent will meet at 2pm at the EH offices, 22 Wilson St., Hamilton. We will be signing letters to our officials before leaving as a group at 2.40 and walking together over to City Hall. We will be wearing green. Join us!
