News from the Office of Welland, Ontario Riding MPP Cindy Forster
Queen’s Park, Ontario – This November 18th, Cindy Forster, Ontario NDP MPP for Welland, demanded Premier Wynne and the Liberal government take action to support workers who lost their jobs at PowerBlades manufacturing facility and to stop further manufacturing job losses.

Cindy Forster, the MPP for the Niagara, Ontario Riding of Welland
“It was only two days ago that the NDP stood up in this legislature and asked this government to stop leaving Ontario’s manufacturing sector behind. On that very same day, we learned that PowerBlades—a manufacturing plant in my community of Welland—closed its doors, leaving 136 hard-working Ontarians without a job—effective immediately,” Forster said.
“This government talks a good game about attracting investment and creating jobs in the province, but the proof is in the pudding: 300,000 good-paying manufacturing jobs lost under the Liberals.
My question is simple: what does this government have to say to those 136 people that lost their jobs on Monday?”
Forster challenged the direction Premier Wynne is taking from Ed Clark, who is advising the Liberal government to privatize public assets, and demanded the premier take action to help families that depend on manufacturing.
“PowerBlades provided a livelihood for more than a hundred people. And now, these families don’t know where their next pay cheque is coming from. And what’s the advice that the Premier is receiving from Ed Clark—her privatization czar? Lower labour costs. Selling off Hydro One—which we know will drive electricity rates through the roof and make it that much harder for manufacturing plants to expand,” Forster said.
“It’s clear that the Premier shares Ed Clark’s definition of a “new day in manufacturing”—which means leaving people behind and driving manufacturing jobs out of the province. Will the Premier commit to standing up for the hard working people in the province’s manufacturing sector?”
