Canada New Government Should Go To Paris Climate Summit With A 100% Clean Energy Pledge

  •  Send The World Some Real Signals That Stephen Harper – Canada’s    Top   Climate Change Denier – Has Been Gonged

November 2015 – To stop climate change from threatening our survival and everything we love, we need to get global emissions to zero.green energy

That’s why we’ve spent the last year asking our leaders to rapidly move us to 100% clean energy — and this month’s Paris summit is the final key. But “blocker” countries could sink the deal we need. And for years under Stephen Harper, that’s exactly what Canada’s been — and that let’s others like Japan, India, and Russia hold out as well, taking cover behind our positive international reputation.

If Canada turns on to 100% clean, it could be the game-changer we need for Paris, the domino that turns blocker after blocker around. Canadians are already on board — over 150,000 of us have signed our 100% clean petition. As he gets ready for his first day in office, let’s send a message to Trudeau — turn Canada into a climate champion, not a climate blocker, and knockout climate change for good: https://secure.avaaz.org/en/canada_climate_champ_12/?bRUUpdb&v=67197

Stephen Harper turned us into one of the world’s biggest climate blockers — lobbying to get dirty tar sands oil into Europe, pulling out of international agreements, and refusing to sign new ones. Canada sits on one of the most deadly sources of carbon pollution — the tar sands of Alberta — but incredible renewable energy resources, too.

Trudeau has a clear mandate, and that includes changes to the country’s climate policy. Fourteen of Harper’s ministers were rejected in their bid for re-election, including Joe Oliver, the former natural resources minister who oversaw the decision to make the tar sands the centre of our national economic plan. This is the moment for Trudeau to commit to joining 100% clean.

Canada as a champion for 100% clean energy is a world-changer. On his first day in office, let’s show Trudeau that we want climate to be a priority, and Canada to be a climate champion — add your name and spread the word from Bonavista to Vancouver Island: https://secure.avaaz.org/en/canada_climate_champ_12/?bRUUpdb&v=67197

This is the moment for our government to join us in calling for 100% clean. To save everything, we need everyone — and making Canada a climate champion would be a big, big step for the movement.

With hope, Danny, Emma, Ari, Fatima, Evan, and the rest of the Avaaz team
