Celebrate One Of Niagara’s Great Cat’s Birthday – And Donate To Animal Assistance And Community Care

By Doug Draper

If he were a human and eligible to run as a candidate in this last fall’s 2014 Ontario municipal elections, he might very well hold a seat on Thorold, Ontario’s municipal council now.

Tigger wants his birthday to be a chance for people to donate to the Animal Assistance Socity of Niagara and Community Care Thorold

And the people of Thorold – to leave the kitty completely out of it and say so myself – might be better off.

Tigger – a regal, orange tabby who resides at a Petvalu retail outlet at the Pine Plaza on Pine Street in Thorold – is turning seven in human years and the store’s staff is celebrating with a Birthday Party on Saturday, February 7th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

As I hope regular visitors to Niagara At Large know, does not give plugs to retail businesses in the form of what is sometimes termed as an ‘advertorial’ or sponsored content.’

But Tigger’s birthday is different. It is not just about this Pevalu outlet promoting itself with an event that includes raffles, gams nd cupcakes. It is about asking encouraging us to make donations to Niagara’s Animal Assistance Society and to Community Care in Thorold.

It is also about a Petvalu string of stores here and in other parts of Niagara that has a proud and compassionate record of taking in stray cats for adoption rather than seeing them possibly facing a lethal needle.

I will leave the rest of this to Thorold Petvalu store staff members Joe and Julie, who have embraced Tigger as the store’s mascot since he was resected by Animal Assistance as a stray.

The ever so regal Tigger

The ever so regal Tigger

“Our store cat Tigger, who is very well known in Thorold, is turning seven, so we will be hosting a birthday party for him in the store. Instead of having people bring presents for Tigger, we will be selling pre-made meals for pets in need. We are hoping that this will generate a significant amount of donations for less fortunate animals.

Tigger was originally found as a stray in Niagara Falls. He was rescued by The Animal Assistance Society of Niagara and brought to the Pet Valu in Thorold for adoption. The staff fell in love with him and ended up adopting him as a store cat. If it wasn’t for the Animal Assistance Society, Tigger and many other cats would not have the opportunity to live the kind of life they deserve. All of the cat donations will be going to the Animal Assistance Society. All of the dog donations will be going to Community Care in Thorold.

We are trying to encourage everyone to “like” Tigger on Facebook. That way they will get the most current party details. You can find him under https://www.facebook.com/pages/Tigger-Thorold-Pet-Valu/318975011643143?fref=nf .”

We are located at 9 Pine Street North in Thorold, 905-227-97

We are hoping to raise $1000 worth of donated food to beat last years total of $750 – Joe and Julie.”
